Salmon Angling on the Suir - Brown Tag Fishery Opens

Salmon Rod Licence holders may once again catch and retain a salmon on the River Suir. The Suir will open on August 15th as a brown tag fishery and the season will end on September 30th, 2011. During this period Anglers in possession of a valid salmon licence, a blue tag and a brown tag may catch and retain one salmon in the period using a single barbless hook. Use of worms is prohibited.  Any fish retained must have both tags correctly attached.

Brown Tags will be distributed on a first come, first served basis to Anglers who present themselves at IFI Clonmel, Anglesea Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary on August 2nd from 17.00 to 19.30 hours in possession of an original rod licence valid in the Waterford district and log book and an unused blue tag. Thereafter, tags may be collected during office hours which are 9.00 to 13.00 and 14.00 to 17.00 hours, Monday to Friday. Tags are non-transferable and any unused tags must be returned to IFI Clonmel, along with your completed logbook before October 19th, 2011.

River Suir Salmon Fishery

Catch & Release Fishery: March 17th 2011 to August 14th, 2011.
Brown Tag Fishery: August 15th toSeptember 30th 2011
Bag Limit: 1 Salmon per Angler.
Tag availability: IFI Clonmel, Anglesea Street, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
August 2nd – 17:00 to 19:30 Hours
August 3rd – September 30th Monday to Friday during office hours of 09.00 – 13.00 & 14.00 to 17.00
Eligibility for Brown Tag: Valid original salmon rod licence and log book
Methods:  Single barbless hooks, no worms

Salmon angling tourism can contribute significantly to local economies. Anglers can assist in ensuring the sustainability of our wonderful natural resource by reporting any incidences of illegal fishing, poaching or pollution to 1890 34 74 24.

Note on Conservation of Salmon and Sea Trout (River Suir) (catch and release) Bye-law No.880 of 2011: This Bye-Law provides for catch and release in angling for salmon and sea trout (over 40cm) in the River Suir (including the waters of the Rivers Clodiagh, Lingaun and Blackwater) in the No.3 or Waterford district during the period 17 March to 14 August, 2011 and a restricted bag limit of 1 fish per person during the period 15 August to 30 September, 2011. The Bye-law also prohibits the use of worms as bait and any fish hooks other than single barbless hooks in angling for salmon and sea trout (over 40cm) in those waters.
