Inland Fisheries Ireland(IFI) first became aware of an incident on Monday, April 15th following reports from members of the public to our confidential, 24/7, phoneline - 0818 34 74 24.

IFI Fisheries Environmental Officers are monitoring and assessing the water quality in the river to try to establish a conclusive source for this pollution event.

IFI understands that Tipperary County Council is also commencing an investigation into the Kings River discharge.

IFI appeals to members of the public to keep reporting issues of concern to our confidential 24/7 number - 0818 34 74 24.

The State environmental agency has statutory responsibility for freshwater fish/habitats in Ireland’s 74,000km of rivers and streams, and 128,000 lake hectares.

IFI does not have the resources to monitor all stretches of all such waterbodies at all times.

IFI is therefore dependent on third parties to inform the organisation of water pollution, fish kills, habitat destruction, illegal fishing or other issues that impact their local rivers, lakes and streams.

IFI can be contacted via its 24/7 phoneline, or by emailing/phoning local offices nationwide.
