Ethna Murphy Consulting to process stakeholder input into new five-year IFI Angling Tourism Marketing Strategy

Monday 18th June 2018:  As part of the development process to delivering an Angling Tourism Marketing Strategy for the next five years, Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) today announced that it will be inviting key agencies, partners and stakeholders to share their insights and views on what they consider to be the critical factors in attracting international and domestic visitors to use Ireland’s recreational fisheries, and to highlight what is important in delivering great experiences that will encourage them to visit, recommend and return.

To this end, IFI has commissioned Ethna Murphy Consulting, a national and international tourism development consultant, to review existing angling market and consumer data and to consult with a sample of industry stakeholders and partners to deliver a shared strategy that is consumer focused and enabled by key government agencies on the island of Ireland involved with fisheries and tourism.

“When realised, the Marketing Strategy will be founded upon a vision, ambition and proposition to secure the future development of angling tourism to 2023, and one that is consumer focused,” said Ethna Murphy.

Ms Murphy added: “The purpose and objective of the consultative process will be to share context, gather insights, learnings and views to inform the emerging vision and international proposition for world class fishing experiences in Ireland. It will consider partnership model that may support shared effort and investment in a compelling and relevant tourism marketing strategy for the next five years.”

Key elements under scrutiny will include:

  • The existing and potential target markets
  • The challenges and strengths of angling tourism in Ireland
  • Learning and insights from elsewhere
  • The ambition for the future
  • The brand we wish to build: our vision, proposition, positioning and values
  • The areas of focus for our efforts and investment
  • The actions that will deliver on our ambitions.
