Water monitoring sensor

Water monitoring sensors provides real-time data on key water quality indicators.

What it is?

The AquaWatch water monitoring float consists of five sensors that measure water health key indicators of dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature, pH, and conductivity.

Why IFI has deployed this monitor?

The water monitoring sensor provides real-time data on key water quality indicators, which can be used to make informed decisions about water management and protection of aquatic ecosystems.

The data collected by the sensor is used to monitor changes in water quality over time and may assist IFI to identify any future pollution.

How does it work?

The floating monitor is linked to a transponder which uploads data every 15 minutes, 24 hours per day. The data is formatted and accessed through a dashboard and which shows at a glance the peaks and troughs and overall trends.

Does it require maintenance?

The floating monitor requires periodic cleaning to ensure the sensors are working properly.

A note on Turbidity (NTU)

Turbidity, measured in NTU, is the measure of relative clarity or cloudiness of water or other liquid, caused by suspended particles (like silt, algae, or bacteria) that scatter light. This monitor is particularly affected by blackfly larvae which occlude the turbidity sensor. IFI regularly cleans the sensors to minimise their impact, however readings will show periodic increases in NTU followed by a sudden decrease post-cleaning and are not a cause for undue concern.

The water monitoring float is replaced every 12 weeks to ensure optimal results.
