Current Stage
The Project is at Phase 4 – Detailed Design. IFI are working in collaboration with Waterways Ireland on a project to mitigate the barrier at Lower Tinnahinch Weir, Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny, which received planning consent from An Bord Pleanála in 2023. Kilkenny County Council recently granted an extension to the planning timeframe. A nature like Pool and Boulder fishway is the proposed solution, as the weir is required for navigational purposes and cannot be demolished.
A Consultant Engineering firm were appointed in December 2025 to undertake Stage 2(ii) Detailed design and Stage 3 Tendering. The Consultant’s programme has scheduled the procurement of a Works Contractor in December 2026. It is envisaged that works will commence on-site in summer 2027.
