IFI statement re fish kill in Tullamore, Co Offaly

Inland Fisheries Ireland and statutory partners are investigating a fish kill in Tullamore, Co Offaly, where 69 fish, primarily brown trout, have died.

The incident occurred on the Tullamore River in Tullamore town, Co Offaly.

Fish mortalities were observed over a 1km stretch of the river. 

Inland Fisheries Ireland(IFI) personnel first attended the site of the incident on Tuesday, September 22nd, following reports to its information line, and are on site again today.

Water samples have been taken from the river for analysis and assessments into the extent – and cause – of the fish kill are ongoing

Members of the public are advised, as a precautionary measure, not to consume any dead fish found at waterways in the area. 

IFI is working with Offaly County Council and the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate the fish kill, and is the lead agency on this case.
