Annacotty Weir

Current Status

The project underwent a second public consultation on eight options in January 2025. Following this, several environmental surveys relating to the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) were completed during the summer of 2025. Geotechnical investigations were also completed. In addition, a refined hydraulic model has been developed, along with a geomorphology study of the options. The proposed option involves removing the existing weir.

Environmental surveys recently confirmed the presence of otters in the vicinity of the weir and appropriate mitigation measures are currently being discussed with the NPWS to address the barrier mitigation requirements. This has delayed the submission of the planning application; however, submission of the planning application is anticipated in early July 2026.
