The project received planning consent from Donegal County Council in February 2024 for the replacement of existing weirs with modern fish counters and fish pass solutions across three locations in the town of Dungloe.

Construction took place over the summer works window, and the project was completed in September 2025.

These fish passage solutions will greatly enhance fish passage on this important river system and lead to improved spawning outcomes for a range of fish species that inhabit the system.
