Dalligan Storm Damage.jpg

Current Stage

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), in partnership with Waterford City & County Council, is progressing plans to restore natural fish passage and river connectivity on the River Dalligan through the proposed removal of Dalligan Weir. Built in the late 1960s, the weir currently presents a significant barrier to migratory species such as Atlantic salmon and sea trout, despite the river supporting high-quality habitat upstream.

Specialist engineering and environmental consultants are expected to be appointed in Q1 2026 to undertake the full planning and design phase. Their work will include detailed site investigations, hydraulic and geomorphological assessments, preparation of the statutory planning documentation, and design of a sustainable river-restoration plan following weir removal.
