Dalligan Storm Damage.jpg

Current Stage

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), in partnership with Waterford City & County Council, is progressing plans to restore natural fish passage and river connectivity on the River Dalligan through the proposed removal of Dalligan Weir. Built in the late 1960s, the weir currently presents a significant barrier to migratory species such as Atlantic salmon and sea trout, despite the river supporting high-quality habitat upstream.

The specialist engineering and environmental services contract was awarded in January 2026. The feasibility and options stage of the project is underway.

A joint site visit between  the consultants, IFI and Waterford City & County Council took place in April 2026. Ecology surveys are ongoing and a topographical survey is in the process of being procured.
