A Feasibility & Outline Design (Option Selection) was concluded in December 2024. The recommendation is for partial removal of the existing weir.

A public information day was held in Cahir to present information about the weir removal to stakeholders prior to planning submission.

Various surveys and reports have been compiled in preparation for a planning application which was submitted in December 2025.

It is envisaged that the partial removal of the weir will greatly enhance fish passage on this important river system and lead to improved spawning outcomes for a range of fish species that inhabit the system.
