Mellon Beat offers an opportunity for Salmon and Wild Brown trout

The Mellon Beat, part of Omagh Anglers Association waters, offers an opportunity to fish for salmon and wild brown trout. 

With the fishing season opening on the first day of April, why not explore this new enhanced beat and have a nice relaxing day fishing in stunning surroundings?

The Mellon Beat project is one of several Loughs Agency marine tourism and angling development projects funded through a 4 million programme of investment derived from the European Union's INTERREG IVA programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The in-stream works include groynes and revetment placed in the river as habitat enhancement for fish and other river life. Angler access improvement works include a car park, timber steps to the river, signage, stockproof fencing, gates, and stiles, angler shelters, bench seating and a water depth gauge. The fishing season opens on Wednesday 1st April and day tickets can be purchased at the following outlets:

  • The Special EU Programmes Body is a North/South Implementation Body sponsored by the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland and the Department of Finance in Ireland. It is responsible for managing two EU structural funds Programmes PEACE III and INTERREG IV designed to enhance cross-border co-operation, promote reconciliation and create a more peaceful and prosperous society. The Programmes operate within a clearly defined area including Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and Western Scotland.
  • The INTERREG IVA 2007-2013 Programme, funded though the European Regional Development Fund, is worth €256 million and aims to address the economic and social problems which result from the existence of borders.
