Position Summary

The Dept. of Housing, Planning and Local Government has allocated funding to IFI over a four-year period for delivery of a series of tasks associated with barriers in rivers and strategies to mitigate for improved fish passage and migration of diadromous species. The set of tasks involves both desk and field investigations and delivery on a series of requirements. A Research Officer has already been appointed to lead this project, under overall SRO supervision, and the project now requires a recruit at Technician level to service a range of project requirements. The successful candidate will assist the Research Officer in a range of desk and fields elements connected to the National Barriers Programme.

Research Officer (Hydomorphology)

Job title: Research Officer (Hydromorphology) Rate Type: Salaried

Position Summary

IFI is a partner in the INTERREG VA Catchment CARE project led by Donegal Co. Co.  The project is a cross-border one examining ecological quality of water (sensu Water Framework Directive-WTD) focusing on three catchments. The appointment will examine the Arney and Ulster Blackwater catchments with a view to scoping and actioning management interventions in the instream and riparian zones of channels that would lead to improvement in ecological quality. The appointee will undertake appropriate monitoring before and after any interventions in order to assess the appropriateness of measures and the level of success of measures.

The appointee will work with Project Catchment Officers in the Arney and Blackwater in the planning and execution of management interventions, participate in community awareness, education and networking with stakeholders. The appointee will work with the other project partners in achieve successful implementation of the range of tasks within the project.

Inland Fisheries Ireland is currently seeking to recruit a number of staff as General Operatives in the North West River Basin District (Two positions to be based in Donegal and two positions in Cavan) and in the Shannon River Basin District (Two positions to be based in Roscommon) for periods of up to a maximum of 5 – 6 months (to the end of 2018).

Position Summary

The General Operative will be primarily concerned with supporting the efforts of other IFI staff in the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of the Fisheries Acts, Water Pollution Acts and other relevant statutory provisions.
