Laboratory ServicesThe Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) laboratories have been established for over 30 years and offer a nationwide environmental testing and support service for internal (e.g. environmental enforcement staff, research projects, etc.) and external clients such as Waterways Ireland. The current state of the art laboratory complex in Swords Business Campus is divided into four laboratories (main chemistry, ICP-MS, Microbiology and Dry Biology) and an office area. An additional “wet” biology laboratory is located at our warehouse facility in Swords. The chemistry laboratory analyses samples relating to pollution incidents and fish kills. Waterways Ireland have contracted the CFB to analyse water samples from all Water Framework Directive monitoring sites as required by legislation (2000/60/EC and SI. No. 722 of 2003). Water samples from long-term water quality monitoring are also analysed. The data generated is also used by the Environmental Protection Agency in many reports, e.g. Lake Water Quality report, Water Quality in Ireland report, State of the Environment report, Environmental Indicators Report, Phosphorus report, etc. The chemistry laboratory can test for a large range of parameters in drinking water, surface water, waste water and ground water. Laboratory staff follow standard operating procedures which are based on international (ISO) standards when carrying out their duties in the laboratories. To ensure accuracy of testing the IFI chemistry laboratory participates in an EPA inter laboratory proficiency testing scheme organised for environmental laboratories throughout Ireland annually. The IFI laboratory has been listed on the EPAs registered list of Quality Approved Laboratories for a number of years. Quality environmental testing carried out by the laboratory (chemistry and biology) includes the following: Chemistry
Microbiology
Biology
